This course explores the most widely accepted approaches and methods for teaching English as a second/foreign language to children and older learners. It also aims to establish the link between linguistic theories, research findings, and classroom practice. This course will be offered online.

This course provides the student with the opportunity to produce an instructional lesson to be used on the computer using the language of Hypercard and Hypertalk. The student will apply the principles of instructional design and visual literacy in the development of the lesson. He/she can prepare a tutorial, a demonstration, or a practice exercise using various instructional activities.

The teacher candidate teaches four (4) hours daily, five (5) days a week for a semester (300 hours minimum) in the public schools of Puerto Rico, under the supervision and guidance of a cooperating teacher and a teaching practice supervisor. This teaching experience is further enriched through seminars, conferences, demonstrations, direct observations, and participation in activities inherent to in-service teachers.
